Paper Bindings: August 2-3
Paper Bindings: August 2-3
Date: August 2-3, 9:30 am - 5:00 pm | Presenter: John DeMerritt
Paper bindings are flexible, durable and use minimal amounts of adhesive and equipment. They incorporate strong sewing and durable handmade covers that wear in beautifully. In this workshop, students will make two books. The first book will be a limp paper structure with folded sections sewn on a support and a handmade paper cover laced onto the supports.
The second structure will be a paper case binding, with sewn unsupported sections glued into a cover made of handmade paper. Participants will learn two different sewing patterns, how to sew on supports of linen cord, proper spine lining and how to make two different covers out of handmade paper. We will discuss proper use of different adhesives, use of templates to make covers and how to choose the correct materials for these structures.
